چکیده

Data parallel programming languages offer ease of programming and debugging and scalability of parallel programs to increasing numbers of processors. Unfortunately, the usefulness of these languages for non-scientific programmers and loosely coupled parallel machines is currently limited. In this paper, we present the composite tree model which seeks to provide greater flexibility via parallel data types, support for more general, hierachical parallelism, parallel control flow, and efficient execution on loosely coupled, coarse grained parallel machines such as workstation networks. The composite tree model is a new model of parallel programming based on merging data parallelism with object oriented programming languages, and can be implemented as a small set of extensions to any pure, static typed, object oriented programming language.

A fuzzy mixed-integer goal programming model for a parallel machine scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times and release dates

This paper presents a new mixed-integer goal programming (MIGP) model for a parallel machine scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times and release dates. Two objectives are considered in the model to minimize the total weighted flow time and the total weighted tardiness simultaneously. Due to the com-plexity of the above model and uncertainty involved in real-world scheduling probl...

Parallel Programming with Tree Skeletons

Parallel computing is an essential technique to deal with large scaled problems. In recent years, while hardware for parallel computing is getting widely available, developing software for parallel computing remains as a hard task for many programmers. The main difficulties are caused by the communication, synchronization, and data distribution required in parallel programs. This thesis studies...

Parallel Generation of t-ary Trees

A parallel algorithm for generating t-ary tree sequences in reverse B-order is presented. The algorithm generates t-ary trees by 0-1 sequences, and each 0-1 sequences is generated in constant average time O(1). The algorithm is executed on a CREW SM SIMD model, and is adaptive and cost-optimal. Prior to the discussion of the parallel algorithm a new sequential generation with O(1) average time ...

Reconstruction of Maximum Likelihood Phylogenetic Trees in Parallel Environment Using Logic Programming

With rapid increase of nucleotide and amino acid sequence data, it is required to develop reliable and exible application programs to infer molecular phylogenetic trees. The maximum likelihood method is known to be robust among many methods for reconstruction of molecular phylogenetic trees, however, this method requires extremely high computational cost. Although parallel computation is a good...

ParaSail: A Pointer-Free Path to Object-Oriented Parallel Programming

Pointers are ubiquitous in modern object-oriented programming languages, and many data structures such as trees, lists, graphs, hash tables, etc. depend on them heavily. Unfortunately, pointers can add significant complexity to programming. ParaSail, a new parallel object-oriented programming language, has adopted an alternative, pointer-free approach to defining data structures. Rather than us...
